In his paper to the Diesel Engineers and Users' Association recently, Dr. J. G. Pearce, O.B.E., M.I. Mech.E., M.I.E.E., Director, British Cast Iron Research Association, discussed the use and wear of cast iron in diesel engines and examined some components in which wear or failure had occurred, making an analysis of the conditions which contributed to success or failure. The following are extracts from those sections of his paper dealing with the wear‐resistance of liners and piston rings.
