BECAUSE CONSIDERABLE FLUCTUATIONS in tail‐race levels of up to 7.9m. made it necessary for the Società Adriatica di Elettricita, Venice, to specify that the generator should be installed above the highest tail‐race level so as to prevent flooding in all circumstances at its new Barcis power station in Upper Italy, the great distance between the turbine runner and generator caused the shafts to be guided in one turbine collar‐bearing, two intermediate bearings and two generator bearings and the system incorporates some interesting lubrication features.
