The HYDRODYNAMIC THEORY FOR bearing calculations can only be used in cases of stationary loading and the treatment of non‐stationary bearings is essentially more difficult. Work done by the author's Institute had the aim of providing data for theoretical work and of finding the answer to such questions as “What is the quantity of oil which flows through the bearing with differing feed pressures and loadings ?”, or “How does the oil disperse to the individual lubricating points and how much of that which enters the main bearings passes to the connecting red ?”, and “How is this distribution displaced when one of the bearings is worn”. In the case of two‐stroke engines it is also important to know the maximum quantity of oil feed to prevent oiling up.
