Richard StillwellExecutive Chairman, Uniqema

Richard Stillwell (Plate 1), 49, joined ICI in 1974. Until 1992 Richard worked for the ICI Paints business in a number of marketing, business management and planning roles including a spell as vice president ­ planning and acquisitions in the Glidden Company following its acquisition by ICI in 1986. From 1989 to 1992 he was chief executive of the ICI Paint business in Asia Pacific based in Singapore. From 1992 until early 1997 he was chief executive officer of the International Polyurethanes Business based in Brussels. The polyurethanes business is one of the materials businesses earmarked for growth by ICI. ICI sanctioned £200m of major capacity investment in polyurethanes in 1995. The new plants in Rozenburg in Holland and in Wilton in the UK were completed in 1997. For a brief period in 1997, Richard was director of personnel, SHE and public affairs for ICI. His period in this role coincided with the major restructuring of ICI, which included the acquisition of Unilever Speciality Chemicals. In the reorganisation which followed the acquisition he was appointed executive vice president ­ industrial specialties.

David T. MaCleodExecutive Vice Chairman, Uniqema

David MacLeod, 46, joined ICI Paints in 1974 following a degree in business and administrative studies. He worked in various sales and marketing positions, eventually becoming European marketing manager for Dulux from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he was appointed vice president, planning and acquisitions at the Glidden Company (acquired by ICI from Hanson) in the USA. He returned to Europe in 1990 to become general manager ICI Europe Industrial Paints where he rationalised the portfolio of businesses and helped establish two joint venture companies. David attended the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD in 1992 and was appointed managing director of ICI Melinex Europe, where he initiated a complete reengineering of business processes which resulted in significant improvement in the financial performance of the company. In 1997 he moved to ICI Performance Chemicals as business development and planning director. Performance Chemicals was set up to drive the growth of the specialty businesses. In particular, David was responsible for the successful transition of Quest into the specialty portfolio. In 1998 David was appointed as CEO of ICI Surfactants. He led the business to a significant improvement in profits by creating a global strategic clarity, reducing complexity and initiating commercial and manufacturing upgrades.

Antoine FadyExecutive Director, Uniqema

Antoine Fady, 36,graduated in industrial engineering at St Etienne, France and subsequently obtained a Master of Business degree from INSEAD. Antoine joined ICI in 1988 and has had a series of commercial and business roles within various ICI businesses. From 1994 to 1996, he worked in the polyurethane business, initially in the rigid foam business as development, and latterly as global business development manager in the insulation business. From November 1996, Antoine has led the European Surfactants Business, based in Everberg, Belgium. In this role, Antoine has led the introduction of a business change project process called Gamma,which is looking to fundamentally improve the cost performance and business outlook for the European Surfactants Business. Recently, Antoine has reorganised his senior team to deliver the strategy and to ensure the development of the Uniqema European Specialties organisation.

Peter MilstedExecutive Director, Uniqema

Peter Milsted qualified as a minerals engineer from Birmingham University and joined Unilever as a graduate trainee in 1977. Peter was appointed to the business area that would eventually become Quest and held many different marketing and sales roles including a five year posting to Brazil where he was head of marketing and sales for fragrances. He moved to Unichema as general manager of Unichema Australia in 1992 and then returned to Holland as Lubricants Global Business Unit manager in 1994. His portfolio increased to include Personal Care Global Business Unit Manager and Global Esters Manager in 1996.

Peter was appointed marketing director Unichema at the end of 1997 and then became group vice president Asia Pacific Unichema in February 1998.

Peter W. JohnsonExecutive Director, Uniqema

Peter Johnson, 51, entered ICI in 1969 as a development engineer in the company's corporate programme based in Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to joining ICI he had obtained a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Manhattan College, New York. In 1975 Peter was awarded an MBA degree from the University of Delaware and also became Polymer Plant and Technical Manager at ICI Films in Hopewell, Virginia. In 1981 he returned to the Wilmington site as manager of production planning and customer service in ICI Films. He was subsequently promoted to become manager for Industrial Films. In 1992 Peter was appointed regional director, Asia for ICI Films and was based in Tokyo, Japan. He returned to Wilmington as president,ICI Industrial Specialties America in September 1995.

Bryan C. DobsonExecutive Director, Uniqema

Bryan Dobson joined ICI with a PhD in chemistry in 1978 and held various positions in research and development, manufacturing, sales and marketing in ICI's petrochemical business in the UK. In 1990 he moved to Brussels to ICI's polyurethanes business as international research and technology manager and in 1994 was appointed international business development manager. One of his main activities during this time was extending ICI's leading position in MDI into new applications. In 1996, Bryan moved to the USA to ICI's acrylics business as downstream business director. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Bryan was responsible for the polymer,cast and extruded sheet divisions in the USA as well as global developments activities extending ICI's application range for MMA. Bryan returned to Europe in 1998 where he was appointed group vice president, Europe for Unichema.
