Change of editor

On the retirement of the previous editor, Bill Wilson, the British Lubricants Federation took on the responsibility for providing editorship of this journal. This arrangement was perceived as having a number of advantages, in that a certain degree of continuity could be ensured, as well as having a large pool of potential editors among the membership of the Federation. Much as I have enjoyed acting as editor for the past 18 months or so, the time has come for me to devote more time to other pressing issues within the Federation. I am therefore taking the opportunity to pass over the role to a colleague, John Taylor, previously Technical Manager and Manufacturing Manager at the lubricants manufacturing plant of Total Oil Great Britain Limited, situated at Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire. It has been an interesting 18 months, during which period I have made contact with many experts in the field of tribology, as opposed to my own specialist field of chemistry and lubrication. This required me to undergo a rather steep learning curve, initially at least, which was nevertheless thoroughly enjoyable!

Bill, during his years as previous editor, had already been instrumental in developing the journal into a valuable source of reference. John, a process engineer by profession, will bring to the journal his own particular brand of expertise, and we look forward to a further period of development.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those who have contributed to the continuing success of the journal, including of course all authors of papers, contributors of articles, and the many others who have responded to requests for assistance and guidance.
