Editorial
In this issue, we are pleased to present five papers covering different aspects of tribology.
From Greece we hear of a new method of predicting operational characteristics of sliding journal bearings while from India the theory of squeeze film lubrication is further developed. Long journal bearing analysis is reported on from Taiwan together with Turkish thoughts on the use of neural networks for this type of bearing analysis. Taiwan provides our other paper on hybrid bearing character performance.
Taking all this work together and remembering all the previous published mathematical analysis it should be interesting to know where all this work is leading us.
Are academic institutions across the world devoting too much time to theoretical analysis? Who is translating all this theory into practice? It seems that for new researchers a big target could be to gain a real world advantage from existing theoretical knowledge.
Are any readers currently engaged in turning theory into practice? Please let us know especially if you have a subject on which you can report.
