Opinion polls are about to be used to diagnose the state of labour relations, with John Clemens — head of the Marplan research group — involved in the setting up of a service calling itself The Centre for Industrial Communications. Management and unions using the service will have access to a “bank” of questionnaire‐based information on job attitudes within their company, and the hope is that this can be used to identify speedily the causes of any labour unrest.
