A series of samples taken from different points of a cement preheater tower were the subject of a chemical and mineralogical study. In order to determine the amount of mineralogical components, especially that of calcite and aggressive phases (sulfates, sylvite, etc.), a quantitative analysis based on the Rietveld method was carried out and the results checked with the thermogravimetric analysis. The obtained results serve as a useful base to examine the evolution of undesirable phases and to control the efficiency of cyclones.
