Barium calcium sulfoaluminate (C2·75B1·25A3S¯) mineral was prepared with analytical pure chemical reagents calcium carbonate, aluminium oxide, barium carbonate and barium sulfate. The sintering temperature and formation mechanism of the C2·75B1·25A3S¯ mineral were investigated by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry/thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectrometer analysis. The effect of iron (III) oxide on the C2·75B1·25A3S¯ mineral formation is discussed. The experimental results show that the beginning formation temperature, the large-amount formation temperature and decomposition temperature for C2·75B1·25A3S¯ mineral are 1100°C, 1350°C and 1370°C respectively. C2·75B1·25A3S¯ mineral is formed by solid reaction with 12CaO.7Al2O3 (C12A7), monocalcium aluminate (CA) or monobarium aluminate (BA) regarded as the interphase, as verified by variation of the Gibbs free energy of the reaction. An appropriate amount of iron (III) oxide can replace alumina to form iron-bearing C2·75B1·25A3S¯.
