The chemical reaction and its rate in a KOH solution—powdered dolostone system at temperatures of 100°C-200°C were investigated by differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction. It is shown that the reaction is significantly accelerated by increased temperature but the actual mechanism of the reaction, i. e. dedolomitization, is not changed. Calcite, quartz and ilUtic or chloritic clays, which are often found in dolomitic rocks, do not affect the course of the reaction; however, calcite may speed up the dedolomitization.
