Papers published in Bridge Engineering are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.
On Tuesday 25 October 2005, outgoing ICE president Colin Clinton presented awards to the following papers published in Bridge Engineering in 2004. The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by David Hodgkinson allocated the awards.
The Overseas Prize (1), presented for the best paper on an overseas project, has been awarded to: Ahmadi-Kashani K. Seismic design of Egnatia Motorway bridges, Greece. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers—Bridge Engineering, 2004, 157, No. 2, 83–91.
The John Henry Garrood King Medal, presented for the best paper on bridges, has been awarded to: Smith D. A. and Hendy C. R. Design of the New Medway Bridge, England. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers—Bridge Engineering, 2004, 157, No. 1, 27–36.
The Telford Prize (1), presented for the second best paper on bridges, has been awarded to: Head P. R. New bridge technology for sustainable development. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers—Bridge Engineering, 2004, 157, No. 4, 193–202.
