Jinhai Bridge (China) is a cable-stayed bridge with a single deck carrying a double rail track in the middle and three highway lanes on each side. The structural design combines a rigid frame with continuous spans, effectively improving the overall structural rigidity to meet the requirements for railway traffic and minimising the temperature effect from a long continuous structure. The deck girder is a steel box with large cantilever flanges, which is cost effective. The steel pylons are designed with four legs located on top of the deck instead of on the pile cap in order to minimise the size of the pile foundation. To improve construction efficiency, the main girder and pylons were prefabricated into large-scale components and erected using heavy equipment.
