The use of mines in recent conflicts both to protect and deny the use of infrastructure significantly impedes regeneration of that infrastructure once peace is established. The impact of mine contamination also extends beyond the infrastructure itself, severely hindering a return to normality. As this paper shows, military engineers can play a significant role in assisting infrastructure regeneration post-conflict in mitigating the impact of these ‘hidden killers’ through a range of activities.
