This paper presents the development of a three-dimensional simulation of the Oxford Circus junction in London, UK to promote radical proposals for improving the junction, including diagonal pedestrian crossings. While the project team was confident the scheme would deliver benefits for pedestrians and make a step change in the quality of the public space, stakeholders and the general public needed to appreciate how the junction would perform on a day-to-day basis, as well as how much the public realm would be transformed. To achieve this, the project team produced a real-world animation featuring a three-dimensional simulation of the junction. Accurate movement of both people and vehicles through the space was achieved through the complex integration of a range of modelling software.
