The 540 m Tahya Misr Bridge over the Nile in Cairo, Egypt was completed in 2019. At 67.3 m wide, it is the widest cable-stayed crossing in the world. The crossing has an innovative configuration, with separate decks for each carriageway carried by merged pylons that share their inner legs. This paper highlights the unique design features and special construction considerations of the shared-pylon design. The geometry and site control strategies are explained along with the bridge closure process, which was based on the natural temperature method.
