The destruction of infrastructure in disaster zones – whether from natural hazards or armed conflict – presents significant barriers to timely response and recovery. The development of portable bridging systems that can be rapidly deployed without plant, specialist personnel or access to both sides of a gap is vital for military engineers, disaster response agencies and humanitarian organisations. EasiBridge – a system originally developed for the UK Ministry of Defence – has evolved to support a wide range of civil and humanitarian applications. This article examines the system’s underlying structural concepts, the progression from tactical to civilian use and the implications for future rapid-access infrastructure in emergency environments.
