Clare S. Allely is based at School of Health Sciences, The University of Salford, UK. She is a Reader in Forensic Psychology at the University of Salford in Manchester, England and is an affiliate member of the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre at Gothenburg University, Sweden. Clare holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Manchester and has previously graduated with an MA (hons.) in Psychology from the University of Glasgow, an MRes in Psychological Research Methods from the University of Strathclyde and an MSc in Forensic Psychology from Glasgow Caledonian University. Clare is also an Honorary Research Fellow in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences affiliated to the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. Clare’s primary research projects and interests include the pathway to intended violence in mass shooters, serial homicide and investigating how autism symptomology can contribute to different types of offending behaviour and autism in the criminal justice system (police, court, prison and secure psychiatric care).

Bob Allely is based at Clyde Bergemann, UK. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 50 years of industrial experience. He served an Engineering Apprenticeship at the Singer Sewing Machine factory in Clydebank, gained a BSc (hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering, held design engineer roles in a variety of industries such as Yarrow (marine), Burroughs (electronics) and Massey Ferguson (agriculture) and moved into engineering management in the electronics industry through the 1980s and 1990s when it was at its peak in Scotland. He then returned to and has been serving in the mechanical engineering industry for the past 15 years – employed by Clyde Bergemann as a senior project manager. He has developed an active and deep interest in the field of psychology through many years of supporting the academic growth of his daughter, Dr Clare Allely, the principal author of this paper.
