The report of the Dainton Committee is the result of the first examination by a Government‐appointed committee of the national libraries. The Committee ‘early took the view that the National Libraries must be seen in relation to … other parts of the national information system’. Its proposals do not touch industrial libraries directly, but only by way of their effects on the national libraries.
