This paper describes two significant flood-related reservoir incidents – at Pennal in North Wales and at Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. These occurred during the summer of 2012, which was one of the wettest on record. The incidents share a number of commonalities and have possible implications for reservoir safety guidance and legislation, which are discussed.
