This paper describes the refurbishment work undertaken on three automatic mechanical tilting gates over the central spillway of Coedty reservoir in 2011. The gates were dismantled, removed, grit blasted and painted before reinstallation. Parts of the mechanism were replaced. The works were completed successfully without blocking the spillway at any time. Post-completion, the middle gate has exhibited unusual noise vibration with water shedding during low flow at minimal spill. This has been remedied by the installation of three splitters on the top edge of the gate to break the flow of water.
