Integration and innovation; temporary and permanent works: Swinden and Lee Green impounding reservoir spillway upgrades Available to Purchase

The Swinden and Lee Green impounding reservoirs are United Utility assets near Burnley, Lancashire. This project delivered key upgrades to spillway facilities to enable them to safely pass the probable maximum flood in the interests of safety. Several temporary-works packages were identified during the tender phase, and close collaboration between the designer and the contractor capitalised on this rare opportunity to deliver combined designs that facilitated economical, innovative and safe construction. This paper outlines the clear benefits added by integrating permanent-works designs with temporary-works design packages.
