The Roseires Dam, Sudan, was opened on 10 December 1966, delivering much needed irrigation and power generation infrastructure. On the 50th anniversary of the dam construction, this paper summarises the original design features and provides commentary on the subsequent dam-raising works completed in 2013, increasing the dam height by 10 m. The paper also highlights the engineering skill employed by the original design team and pays tribute to their foresight in successfully future proofing this substantial asset.
