Welcome to the third issue of Dams and Reservoirs journal for 2018 and a special Welsh edition to celebrate the British Dam Society conference being held in Swansea.

In this issue we have concentrated on Welsh dams. We start with a write-up on the new Dolgarrog memorial. Following this we have papers on Dee regulation reservoirs, Llyn Teifi spillway rehabilitation works, the near failure and repair of Lluest Wen and the complications of undertaking inspection and works on a wet valve tower at Wentwood.

We are also very pleased to have been able to interview Denis Earp recently, who has visited and worked on a large number of Welsh dams throughout his career.

Our front cover photo has been provided by Dan Ivins of DCWW. If you are an Instagram user, follow his feed Dams & Reservoirs to see his beautiful photos of DCWW dams.

We would like to remind our readers that we welcome comment and discussion on our published papers. If you would like to provide any discussion on the papers included in this issue, or previous issues, please email the editor.

We are currently looking for articles for our 2019 editions. Please could I request that our readership continue to highlight topics and schemes that they think would be of interest to the wider readership and contact the editor with a proposed title or subject in the first instance? Please note that our editorial panel are on hand to provide mentoring and guidance in preparation of papers, should you require.

At times we receive interesting papers, which we would like to publish, but due to their length or complexity are not suitable for publishing in the hard copy of our journal. In these instances the papers are still available online for readers to peruse. Please also note that articles are available online in advance of being published in the hard copy of our journal, so it is always a good idea to check the journal online to keep up to date with recent developments in our industry.

Croeso i drydydd rhifyn 2018 o Dams and Reservoirs, rhifyn arbenning yn canolwyntio ar Gymru i ddathlu cynhadledd British Dam Society yn Abertawe.

Mae'r rhifyn yma yn canolbwyntio ar argaeau yng Nghymru. Rydym yn dechrau gyda adroddiad ar gofeb newydd Dolgarrog. Yn dilyn hynny mae gennym adroddiadau ar gronfeydd dwr i rheoli afon Dyfrdwy, gwaith adfer sianel gorlif Llyn Teifi, atgyweirio Lluest Wen ar ol iddo fynd yn beryglus o agos at ddymchwel, a chymlethdodau arolygu a gweithio ar dwr falfiau yng Nghoed Gwent.

Rydym hefyd yn falch ofod wedi gallu cyfweld Denis Earp yn ddiweddar, sydd wedi ymweld a gweithio ar nifer fawr o argaeau yng Nghymru.

Mae'r llun ar y clawr blaen wedi cael ei gyflenwi gan Dan Ivins o DCWW. Os ydych yn defnyddio Instagram, gallwch ddilyn ei hanes Dams & Reservoirs weld mwy o luniau trawiadol o argaeau DCWW.

Hoffwn atgoffa ein darllenwyr ein bod yn croesawu sylwadau a thrafodaeth ar beth ydym yn ei gyhoeddi. Os hoffech wneud sylw ar unrhywbeth sydd wedi ei gynnwys yn y rhifyn yma, neu rhifynau eraill, anfonwch ebost i'r golygydd os gwelwch yn dda.

Ar hyn o bryd rydym yn chwilio am erthyglau i'w cyhoeddi yn 2019. Wnaiff ein darllenwyr ddal i godi pynciau a phrosectau eu bod yn meddwl fydd o ddiddordeb i ddarllenwyr eraill os gwelwch yn dda, a chysylltu a'r golygydd gyda teitl neu bwnc arfaethiedig. Mae ein panel olygol ar gael i gynorthwyo gyda ysgrifennu adroddiadau, os fyddwch angen cymorth.

Ar adegau rydym yn derbyn adroddiadau diddorol yr hoffem gyhoeddi, ond oherwydd eu hyd neu gymhlethdod dydyn nhw ddim yn addas i'w cyhoeddi yn fersion papur y cylchgrawn. Mewn achosion fel hyn, mae'r erthyglau yn dal ar gael ar lein. Hefyd, mae erthyglau ar gael ar lein cyn cael eu cyhoeddi yn fersion papur y cylchgrawn felly mae bob amser yn syniad da i edrych ar y cylchgrawn ar lein i ddilyn y newyddio diweddaraf am ein diwydiant.

There was a fantastic UK turnout for the ICOLD Annual Meeting and Congress this year in Vienna. Forty-seven were registered including accompanied people. Thirty-seven attended the traditional British and Irish Dinner for schnitzel, apple strudel and a tasting of the local beer! The Technical Committee meetings were well attended by our BDS representatives and some good progress was made on the ICOLD Bulletins. Several of our members presented at the Committee Workshops and Congress Technical Sessions, which helped to raise our profile in the international arena and demonstrate the excellent and innovative work being undertaken in the UK to improve dam and levee safety and promote sustainability. I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to make this a very successful event for the BDS.
