Purpose

This paper aims to propose an enterprise integration framework that integrates blockchain-enabled smart contracts, enterprise project management systems, and IoT-supported verification for automated payment management in construction projects.

Design/methodology/approach

A three-stage research methodology was adopted, comprising a systematic literature review, the development of an enterprise integration framework, and expert validation through which the proposed framework was refined.

Findings

The findings indicate that blockchain alone is insufficient for payment automation in construction projects. Effective implementation requires integration with enterprise project management systems, IoT-supported verification, and governance mechanisms. The validated enterprise integration framework demonstrates how these technologies can be combined to support transparent, automated, and reliable construction payment processes.

Research limitations/implications

The framework is conceptually validated and has not yet been implemented in real construction projects. Future research should evaluate its operational performance and interoperability across different enterprise project management environments.

Originality/value

Unlike previous studies focusing primarily on blockchain technology, this study proposes an enterprise integration framework that combines enterprise project management systems, blockchain infrastructure, verification mechanisms, and governance within a unified architecture for construction payment automation.
