Taking a systems perspective has a number of benefits when examining career progression since the important factors are so interwoven and deal greatly with softer perceptions. A systems view relies on providing multiple representations of reality. The main difference from previous studies is the emphasis on career progression given to the role of politics by IS practitioners.
