Briefing: Regulatory issues for electrical energy storage

To develop electrical energy storage projects, it is necessary to understand the commercial and regulatory structure of the power industry and to ensure that the impact of regulation and legislation is taken into account in the planning, construction and operation of the project. Electrical energy storage can be used by generators, including renewable generators of electricity, transmission and distribution operators, suppliers and users of electricity. In the UK, there are varying regulations for electricity storage and different market structures for its operation.
