It has come to the attention of the Publisher that the article contained two errors:
- 1.
The sentence ‘Balkentrager mit freigenden Stuntzpunkten’ (found in the abstract and Introduction) has now been corrected to ‘Balkenträger mit freiliegenden Stützpunkten’.
- 2.
The year ‘1886’ (found in the abstract and introduction) has now been corrected to ‘1866’.
The authors apologise to the readers of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers — Engineering History and Heritage for any misunderstanding.
