Papers published in Engineering Sustainability are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.
On Tuesday 25 October 2005, outgoing ICE president Colin Clinton presented awards to the following papers published in Engineering Sustainability in 2004 (see Fig. 1). The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by David Hodgkinson allocated the awards.
The Bill Curtin Medal, presented for the best paper describing innovative design, was awarded to: Simm J. D., Wallis M. J., Collins K. J. and Atkins R. Reuse of materials in river and coastal engineering. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Engineering Sustainability, 2004, 157, No. 3, 113–121.
The Trevithick Prize, presented for the best paper on sustainability, was awarded to: Jowitt P. W. Sustainability and the formation of the civil engineer. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Engineering Sustainability, 2004, 157, No. 2, 79–88.
The Halcrow Prize, presented for the second best paper on sustainability, was awarded to: Martin A. J. Concrete bridges in sustainable development. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Engineering Sustainability, 2004, 157, No. 4, 219–230.
