Bridges and overpasses are essential structures for mobility and transportation, playinga fundamental role in transportation infrastructure. However, they are susceptible to defectsthat can compromise their safety and durability. Conducting studies on defects in suchstructures is crucial as it allows for the identification of issues, the development of appropriatesolutions, and the assessment of the conditions of the constructions, enabling thedetermination of necessary measures to ensure their integrity. In this study, visual inspectionswere conducted on five structures located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The defects found inthese structures were mostly identical or similar to those reported in the literature reviewused. Based on this information, it is possible to identify the most common defects, whichallows for directing preventive and corrective maintenance efforts more effectively, preventingthe progression of these problems and reducing the financial costs associated with structuralrepairs. The methodology involved analyzing bibliographic sources, scientific articles, andconducting planned visual inspections.
