Various building defects were reported 2–3 years after the completion of the construction of a two-storey warehouse building located in an industrial area in Singapore. These defects included water seepage from the ceiling at the first storey and vertical cracks at column/wall interfaces. At some of the canopies, disintegrated polycarbonate sheets were dislodged and stains were found on the wire mesh. Random ‘map’ cracks were reported at both the first and second storeys of the warehouse. An investigation was carried out to ascertain the nature and the causes of the building defects of the warehouse. The findings of the investigation and lessons learnt are presented.
