This paper reports on and presents details of rock anchorages installed within the nuclear-licensed site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. For those upgrade works undertaken since 1997, when the dockyard was sold to Devonport Management Ltd, the paper describes the design and installation considerations for the selection of rock anchorages. The selection process involved considerations of examination, inspection, maintenance and testing (EIMT) requirements to meet nuclear safety criteria, anchorage capacity and cost. Bar anchorages were generally adopted, but where their capacity was less than the required working load strand anchorages were used.
