Papers published in Geotechnical Engineering are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.

On Wednesday 1 November 2006, outgoing ICE president Gordon Masterton will present awards to the following papers published in Geotechnical Engineering in 2005. The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by John Burland allocated the awards.

The Halcrow Prize (2), presented for the best paper on geotechnical aspects of construction, has been awarded to: Holmes G, Roscoe H. and Chodorowski A. Construction monitoring of cut and cover tunnels. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers—Geotechnical Engineering, 2005, 158, No. 4, 187–196.

The Telford Premium (3), presented for the second best paper on geotechnical aspects of construction, has been awarded to: White D. J. and Bolton M. D. Comparing CPT and pile base resistance in sand. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers—Geotechnical Engineering, 2005, 158, No. 1, 3–14.
