Papers published in Geotechnical Engineering are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any of the ICE journals can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to their specific subject area.
On Friday 24 October 2008, ICE president David Orr presented awards to the following papers published in Geotechnical Engineering in 2007. The editorial panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by Adrian Long allocated the awards.
The Bill Curtin Medal, presented for the best paper on innovation, has been awarded to: Bourne-Webb P. J., Potts D. M. and Rowbottom D. Plastic bending of sheet steel piles. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geotechnical Engineering, 2007, 160, No. 3, 129–140.
The Crampton Prize, presented for the best paper on geotechnical engineering practice, has been awarded to: Dimmock P. S. and Mair R. J. Estimating volume loss for open-face tunnels in London Clay. Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geotechnical Engineering, 2007, 160, No. 1, 13–22.
