Welcome to the June 2009 issue of Geotechnical Engineering.
I am pleased to report that there are a satisfying number of quality papers progressing through the journal publication process. The editorial advisory panel would encourage the submission of more papers relating to case histories of recent projects. Technical briefing notes highlighting innovation or noteworthy observations are also welcomed. There has been a good response to our call for abstracts for ‘Geotechnics of Tunnelling' that will be progressed for publication in our 2010 themed issue.
This issue of Geotechnical Engineering covers the subjects of remote sensing of landslides,1 finite element modelling of laterally loaded piles in clay,2 a parametric study of no erosion filter (NEF) testing3 and plastic limit and workability soil testing.4 There is also written discussion on a previously published paper by Harry Poulos on a ‘Practical design approach for piles with negative friction. 5 The editorial advisory panel actively encourages written discussion on any paper published in Geotechnical Engineering. It is a key aim of the panel to increase the volume of written discussion given that since 2008 we are publishing six journal issues per annum and there has been a noticeable decline in written discussion in all ICE Proceedings over the last 25 years.
The editorial advisory panel is aware that our readership encompasses many different strands within the geotechnical engineering community. Our main challenge is to try to ensure that, during the course of a volume, our journal will publish papers drawn from across all these strands, so that you will all find something of interest, and will spread the word among your colleagues. If you find your particular area is unrepresented, why not consider writing a paper yourself; we are always grateful for suggestions for future issues. The panel look forward to hearing from you.
