At the Editorial Board meeting held on 21 September 2006 in Yokohama, it was decided to select the best paper published in Geosynthetics International in each year, starting with Volume 12 (2005). The decision was also made that this selection would be made by the members of the Editorial Board serving at the time of the award year. We are delighted to announce that the ‘Best Geosynthetics International Paper for 2005’ is:
Perkins, S. W. & Cortez, E. R. (2005). Evaluation of base-reinforced pavements using a heavy vehicle simulator. Geosynthetics International, 12, No. 2, 86–98
The voting by the members of the Editorial Board resulted in two other outstanding papers tying for second choice. Hence we decided that these papers deserve to be recognised as ‘one of the three best papers published in Geosynthetics International in 2005’. They are:
Chai, J.-C., Miura, N. & Hayashi, S. (2005). Large-scale tests for leachate flow through composite liner due to geomembrane defects. Geosynthetics International, 12, No. 3, 134–144
and
Alfaro, M. C. & Pathak, Y. P. (2005). Dilatant stresses at the interface of granular fills and geogrid strip reinforcements. Geosynthetics International, 12, No. 5, 239–252
We thank the members of the Editorial Board for participating in the best paper selection process, and congratulate the authors of these excellent papers. Each paper reflects the high standards of the journal and is an important contribution to our geosynthetics discipline.
