Although the home of Géotechnique is not in an area of high seismicity, the journal has played an important part in enabling its readership and the geotechnical profession to keep abreast of world developments in the important and often difficult area of geotechnical dynamics. This note highlights contributions published in Géotechnique that have been influential in developing not only conceptual approaches but also engineering practice. Topics covered range from soil behaviour, earth structures to foundations and earth retaining walls. While seismic actions are mainly discussed many of the concepts are also relevant to machine base design.
