The Paper deals with the problem of consolidation of a clay layer in which vertical partially penetrating drains have been installed. The influence of well resistance is considered in the analysis, which is performed by means of the finite element method. The drainage pattern for each drain is assumed to be axisymmetric. Diagrams of the average degree of consolidation versus time for some selected non- dimensional parameters are presented. These dia-grams indicate, for partially penetrating drains, that the delay in the consolidation process within the zone penetrated by drains (due to higher excess porewater pressure in the underlying undrained zone) is noticeable only to a very limited height above the drain tips. In the case studies presented the delay is negligible to a depth corresponding to at least 80% of the partially penetrating drain length.

L'article concerne le problème de la consolidation d'une couche d'argile dans laquelle on a installé des drains verticaux qui pénètrent partiellement. L'influence de la résistance de puits est considérée dans I'analyse, qui s'effectue par la méthode des éléments finis. L'on admet que le type de drainage pour chaque drain est axisymétrique. Des diagrammes type consolidation moyenne-temps presentés pour quelques paramètres choisis sans dimensions indi-quent que dans le cas des drains qui pénètrent partiellement le retard de la consolidation qui à lieu à l'interieur de la zone traversée par les drains et qui est causé par le plus grand excts d'eau interstitielle dans la zone non-drainke sous-jacente ne se fait sentir qu'à une hauteur trts limitCe de l'extremité des drains. Dans les exemples étudiés dans l'article le retard est negligeable jusqu'à une profondeur qui correspond à 80% au moins de la longueur du drain partie.
