Electrical impedance measurements are monitored during the sedimentation of a clay slurry and provide an in-situ, non-invasive technique to study the sedimentation process. The term normalised resistivity is introduced and data are interpreted in terms of the development of a density profile and the influence of pore fluid concentration on this process. Particle alignment mechanisms are also inferred from the electrical properties of the slurry.
