Strength recovery from residual state in reactivated landslides

Reactivated landslides have been subjected to repeated sliding and recession. The shear strength of the shear zone is reduced to the residual state during sliding, but could be recovered to some extent during a more stable period. Chandler (1977) indicated that the shear strength of the slip-surface zone was recovered in a stable period before resliding. Zhou et al. (1997) recognised the recovery of the residual strength under normal stresses of 30–100 kPa in laboratory tests in which the remoulded landslide soil was subjected to large-displacement shear, re-consolidation, and re-shear.
