The development of an elastic-plastic model requires knowledge of both the elastic and the plastic behaviour of the material. Nevertheless, much less effort has been spent on the elastic behaviour than on the plastic behaviour (Chen & Mizuno, 1990). The elastic component has often been considered to be just a constant, whereas sophisticated treatment has been given to its plastic partner. It is therefore the aim of this study to provide information on the elastic behaviour of Bangkok clays during various stages of triaxial testing.
