Papers published in Géotechnique are eligible for awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers. Papers from any ICE journal can be nominated for several awards. In addition, each journal has awards dedicated to its specific subject area.

On Wednesday 1 November 2006, outgoing ICE President Gordon Masterton presented awards for the following papers published in Géotechnique in 2005. The advisory panel nominated their best papers and an awards committee chaired by John Burland allocated the awards.

The George Stephenson Medal was awarded to: Ratnam, S., Soga, K. and Whittle, R. W. (2005). A field permeability measurement technique using a conventional self-boring pressuremeter. Géotechnique55, No. 7, 527–537.

The Halcrow Prize (3) was awarded to: Houlsby, G. T., Kelly, R. B., Huxtable, J. and Byrne, B. W. (2005). Field trials of suction caissons in clay for offshore wind turbine foundations. Géotechnique55, No. 4, 287–296.

The Geotechnical Research Medal was awarded to: Collins, I. F. (2005). The concept of stored plastic work or frozen elastic energy in soil mechanics. Géotechnique55, No. 5, 373–382.

The Crampton Prize was awarded to: Alonso, E. E., Olivella, S. and Pinyol, N. M. A review of Beliche Dam. Géotechnique55, No. 4, 267–285.
