The value of the modified “coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction” for a single pile in cohesionless soil, called the soil stiffness modulus, is found to depend on the flexure and geometry of the pile. The form of the relation between the modulus for a pile of width B and that for a continuous wall is estimated from the φm-mobilization theory, and is found to correspond with available test data. A procedure for estimating the load/deflexion curve for a pile is proposed which takes account of the properties of the soil and the pile and the relation between these properties.

La valeur du “coefficient corrigé de réaction horizontale souterraine” d'un pilier unique en sol sans cohésion, appelée module de rigidité du sol, apparaît dépendante de la flexure et du dessin du pilier. La forme de relation entre le module pour un pilier de largeur B et pour un mur continu est estimée selon la théorie de mobilisation par φm et apparaît correspondante avec les données d'essais disponibles.
