Vibroflotation in reclamations in Hong Kong

The widespread use of hydraulic sandfill for land reclamation in Hong Kong has led to the need for economic densification of very large volumes of fill material. The technique, known as vibroflotation (or vibrocompaction), has been shown to be particularly well adapted to this task. The paper describes the technique and its application to local conditions. Methods of testing the degree of densification for the fill are discussed, and typical achievements are presented and analysed.
