Carbon foam derived from lignosulfonates: a preliminary study

Self-standing highly porous interconnected carbonaceous foams have been produced by a thermal foaming process from several industrial lignosulfonates. The physical activation of some obtained green carbon foams has been conducted in order to generate some microporosity. The porous characteristics of the foams, in terms of cells and pores sizes, and total porosity have been studied for all materials prepared.
