Response to the Government's ‘Agenda for Discussion’ on primary health care: An alternative view

The coming of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948 was a visionary act to provide for people in a changed world. It was based on idealistic principles in tune with a more egalitarian society that was being created. The concept was a triumph and gave Britain a lead in the provision of health care.
