Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to provide a timeline and account of the development of the Race in the Marketplace (RIM) research network as it nears its 10th anniversary in 2027. Written by the network’s three co-founders, it complements the Guest Editors’ introduction to the special issue, Historical Perspectives on RIM, in the Journal of Historical Research in Marketing.

Design/methodology/approach

The RIM co-founders present a firsthand narrative of the organization’s development, highlighting the collaborative efforts that have shaped its inception and growth.

Findings

The paper presents a visual timeline and narrative highlighting the RIM network’s key accomplishments and academic contributions.

Originality/value

In a global political climate where critical research on race is under attack, this piece reaffirms the network’s longstanding intellectual commitment: to advance understanding of race and markets in ways that support social justice.
