Purpose

This study investigates the effect of adaptive leadership on green competitiveness, focusing on the mediating role of organizational resilience. It also examines the moderating role of psychological resilience on the relationship between adaptive leadership and organizational resilience.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from middle-level managers (n = 389) working in five-star hotels in Egypt. Using WarpPLS 8.0 software, statistical analyses were conducted, and the PLS-SEM was utilized as the primary analytical method.

Findings

Findings revealed that adaptive leadership positively affects green competitiveness and organizational resilience. In addition, organizational resilience positively affects green competitiveness and mediates the relationship between adaptive leadership and green competitiveness. Furthermore, psychological resilience enhances the positive correlation between adaptive leadership and organizational resilience.

Research limitations/implications

The study emphasizes the significance of adaptive leadership and resilience in the hospitality industry for green competitiveness, highlighting its role in navigating sustainability challenges and maintaining competitiveness in an eco-conscious market.

Originality/value

This research shows and carefully evaluates a novel conceptual framework that comprehensively examines the impacts of AL, OR and PR on GC.
