This paper aims to explore the opinions and recommendations of various experts on the integrated Qard Hasan and equity-based micro-enterprise development (IQEMD) model particularly in terms of its suitability, applicability and prospects in the market.
The research involves primary data which are collected from semi-structured interview conducted with experts from various backgrounds. Thematic analysis was used to examine the data.
The experts support the suitability of the IQEMD model in providing financial services to micro-enterprises. They highlight the importance of establishing, managing and operating IQEMD model under the support of the business sector, Islamic council and government in Kandahar, Afghanistan. They further emphasize that capacity of micro firms, funding, training, management and administration, legal matters and public awareness are key factors that influence the sustainability of the IQEMD model.
This paper adds to the literature on Qard Hasan and micro-enterprises especially from the Kandahar context. The paper validates the IQEMD model in terms of its suitability, applicability and prospects in the market by interviewing experts from various backgrounds.
