Purpose

This research highlights the effects of the metaverse on the creation of intellectual capital (IC) in terms of organizational learning (OL) and value creation (VC) in the Bangladesh setting.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, both the conceptual and empirical modeling approaches used were based on structural equation modeling. Data were collected from 200 respondents in Bangladesh. The construct validation was conducted by calculating the exploratory factor analysis, factor loadings, Cronbach’s alpha, composite reliability, average variance extracted and Fornell–Larcker criterion. Path and mediation analysis, coefficient of determination and out-of-sample prediction based on PLSpredict are also carried out. Finally, the difference-in-difference (DiD) approach was conducted to analyze how the metaverse affects VC at different periods.

Findings

This research found that the metaverse affects OL in a positive way in Bangladesh organizations. OL is the key to the enhancement of IC. The usage of a metaverse helps in enhancing the development of IC. The development of IC also positively affects organizational VC. OL and IC development mediates the relationship between metaverse adoption (MA) and VC. Finally, according to DiD analysis, MA positively affects organizational performance.

Originality/value

This study offers a new angle through the association of metaverse technologies and IC advancement and OL, which gives beneficial recommendations for firms that are planning to initiate their VC in a contemporary digital environment.
