This article provides a critical assessment of Dorset Social Services' membership of Research in Practice. It looks at the practical work that has been undertaken in partnership with Research in Practice and considers the effectiveness of that work. It is argued in conclusion that, while membership has benefited Dorset in terms of the development of evidence‐based practice, proof of the final outcome of improved services for children and families is not easily adduced.
